Eclipse update - May 2008

Hi, my name is Eclipse and I was adopted in 2004 from the Humane Society here in Pitt County.  You can read about me finding a snake and letting my humans know in an earlier report.  I just wanted to let you know that I’m doing fine and am very happy with my human family.  Jill is still here and we run and play all the time.  As you can tell I’m very nosey about everything that goes on in my yard and the neighbors also.

I look at everything that is going on to make sure everything is OK.  If there is something wrong or if strangers come, I tell everyone.

Jill and I lost Bear to old age a little over a year ago but our human family went all the way to Ohio to give us a new playmate named Skye.  He is a silver-tipped black Chow Chow who was abandoned and was about to be put down the day they found him.  Sometimes he tries to be bossy but Jill and I let him know that “Girls Rule”.

Skye is lots of fun to play with.  He’s not old.  That silver mustache he has is suppose to be there because he is a silver-tipped Chow Chow.  The tips of his ears and some hairs in his tail are silver also.  Skye is the same age as Jill and I so we all get along just fine.  Of course, we have trained our human family to spoil us as much as possible.

Speaking for the human parts of Eclipse’s family, I can highly recommend adopting a pet from the Humane Society.  We have 3 wonderful family members who constantly make our lives interesting, they give us unconditional love, and in return we spoil them.

I didn't think I would be contacting you so soon but I just had to share this.  We got Eclipse on Wednesday (8/25/04) and brought her home to introduce her to Jill (shepherd/husky mix 18 months old) and Bear (chow-chow 14 years old).  They all three get along fine.  Jill and Eclipse love to run and play while Bear enjoys being the "old man who watches and supervises".

Sunday night (8/29/04) we heard Eclipse barking.  She has a unique bark (woof, woof, awooo) that has a cute little howl on the end.  My husband went out to see what she was barking at since she normally doesn't bark much.  He saw her jumping and barking at something on the ground.  When he looked closer he saw the snake.  He came into the house and got the pistol and killed the snake.  It was a 2-1/2' cottonmouth that outside our back door!  Eclipse was letting us know that there was something wrong and protecting her new home.

We are glad to be the humans who can give Eclipse a home and are very appreciative of the friendship and protectiveness she is giving to us.  The Pitt County Humane Society made all of this possible by taking in animals that would not have a home and matching them with people who want pets.  Thanks again for all that you do.
