Beau

A Loyal Friend

Wilbur, now Beau, when he was a HSEC resident

About ten months ago I adopted a dog from HSEC. This dog has changed my life! I'm sure you remember Wilbur (Who is now known as Beau). I wanted to make sure that you all knew how greatful I am that you took the time to nurse him back to health. Even though his future was uncertain, you never gave up on him. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I first emailed HSEC, because of a project I am doing. I asked that you help me find a dog that had the potential to be a therapy dog. Potential? I got so much more than that with Beau. He is absolutely perfect. Who would have ever thought that stubbon hound could've been my perfect match? I am constantly training Beau under the direction of my mentor, who is a professional dog trainer. You would not believe the turn around he has made! His first couple months with me, he didn't really seem to enjoy interacting with people. We were just sort of there. But, after working with him he has grown to love the time we spend together. Through the use of positive reinforcement training, he is more than a well behaved dog. This method of training has given us a means of communication, and we're able to understand eachother! He's proved to me that with time, effort, and love, any dog has the ability to be a "good dog".

Everywhere I take him people always tell me what a sweet dog he is, and my mentor likes to say that he's a humble dog. It's easy to see that he has a real gift. After I have a hard day, the only thing I want to do is see him. Nothing makes me feel better than to gaze into his gentle, loving eyes. While most dogs find too much eye contact threatening, he just seems to look right into your soul! His darling face could melt the heart of just about anyone.

We are currently taking a training class to prepare us for the Canine Good Citizen Test. I see us becoming a certified team very soon!

I have you all to thank for helping me so much, and providing me with the perfect dog. HSEC does great work, and Beau is living proof! I'll never be able to thank you enough. Not only did you save his life, but you helped to make mine even better! I don't have a more loyal friend than him.

Thank you with all of my heart!
