Natural Disasters - Preparing Your Pets

During Hurricane Floyd, many residents of Pitt County were forced to evacuate their homes. Many had to leave their pets behind because the rescue teams would not take them and emergency shelters would not house them. The United Animal Nations Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) has lists of tips and preventative measures that you can take to ensure the health and well-being of your pets during a natural disaster. The lists are organized by the type of pet and includes dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles and amphibians as well as general information and information on anthrax. Planning is the key! For situations regarding wildlife (rescues, emergencies, and general information), please contact Marti Brinson. Ms. Brinson is licensed by both the state and the federal government to conduct wildlife rescues, and she is a cruelty investigator for the Pitt County Humane Society. She rescues everything from hawks, bears, and raccoons to livestock (as well as the babies of all these animals). She is a great resource for wildlife rescues and game wardens throughout North Carolina and beyond! Call her for more information.

She says you can contact her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is best to call her home number if the need is urgent.
